No single photo can settle every repair. These are the decisions worth making clear before work begins.
What will the quote include?
Ask for the timber work, materials, access, finishing and any removal to be identified separately. A photograph helps start the conversation, but concealed damage or site access can change the scope.
Can we repair only the damaged part?
Sometimes. The adjoining timber, fixings and cause of moisture or movement need checking first. A local repair should not hide an unstable support or an unresolved leak.
What if hidden damage appears?
Stop and explain the newly visible condition before extra work. Agree the changed method, materials and cost in writing rather than treating an initial photo estimate as an unlimited approval.
How will the work affect the home?
Ask which areas need access, whether a door or window will be temporarily out of use, and what preparation, making good and waste removal are included. The answer depends on the agreed job.
